The Lecanto JV football team finished the season 5-1 with a comeback 16-12 victory at Springstead High School. The 5-1 and one record is the second best overall record in school history on the JV level.
Springstead got it started with a 50 yard opening drive that ended with a score. Lecanto would move the ball well in the 1st half with big performances by Amir Wilson and Darius Gainer, but would fail to score.
The Panthers received the ball to start the second half and would score on the opening drive off of a long Gainer run. Travis LaBelle scored on the 2-point conversion to put the Panthers up 8-6. Alginavon “Bam” Cleveland would recover a Jack Levengood onside kick to set the Panthers up in Springstead territory. This time, Wilson would take it himself with Chris Thomas scoring the two-point conversion to put the Panthers up 16-6.
The Eagles would then score to start the 4th quarter, but the Panther defense ultimately held tough in the last minute of the quarter to ensure the victory. The line backing corps of David Cooper, Sam Begin, Matt Fielding, Bryce Kocher, and Janausi Kalumba played a huge part in limiting the Eagles to 12 points.
