The Lecanto JV football team travelled to Crystal River on Thursday night and left as the undefeated JV county champions after beating the Pirates 42-6.

Chris Henry started the scoring for the Panthers on the opening kickoff with an improbable 70 yard return. Henry would then intercept a Pirate pass on the ensuing defensive possession. After a few tough runs by Henry, Kam Aungst found Wyatt Diaz for a 10 yard score. Henry would also convert the two-point conversion. After a pirate three and out, the Panthers would score again on a Henry touc hdown run. After two more forced three and outs, Austin Morando scored his first touchdown of the season on a 3 yard pass from Aungst and Aungst converted the two-point conversion to give the Panthers a 30-0 halftime lead.

The Panthers wouldn’t score again until the 4th quarter when after a long Ethan Scull run, Aungst found Travis Labelle for a touchdown. Labelle would score again on an interception return for a touchdown on the game’s final play.

Defensively, the Panthers were led by the front four of Scull, Matt Turner, Jaheim Patterson, and Janausi Kalumba. The Panthers defense held the Pirates in check for the entirety of the first half. Morando, Austin Stokes, Sam Begin, and Hunter Loetscher made sure nothing got past the second level all night with Loescher recording 2 sacks as well. Chris Henry recorded two interceptions on the night to go with Labelle’s. Christian McAboy also had an interception, but it was called back due to a penalty. Armoni Ruiz, Donovan Foster, and Tyler Carney helped to keep all outside runs inside for the Panther defense as well.

The Panthers finished the season with a record of 4-0 and outscored their opponents 132-6. Congratulations on a great season!
